6.1 Speaker System

A FEW POINTS OF INTEREST

This series of loudspeakers, by virtue of their incredible dynamic range and full frequency response, are perfect for both high end home audio and video applications. In fact, it has been specifically designed to meet every conceivable requirement to serve these dual purposes.

Like all Genesis loudspeakers, the 6.1's are a dipole design producing sound from both the front and rear, one out of phase with the other. While the advantages of a dipole are many, the two main benefits are ease of placement in the room (they can even be located very near to a wall boundary) and a greater degree of spacious, more natural-sounding reproduction.

Dipoles achieve their superior performance because they create a radiation pattern such that the energy radiating from the sides of the speaker's plane is nearly zero. With very little acoustical energy reaching the side walls of your living room not only is placement of the speakers easy but, remarkably, the listener is able to experience the music unencumbered by the normal room iterations which plague most other speakers.

THE 6.1'S MAGIC IS IN THE DRIVERS

The tweeter used in both the front and the back of the 6.1 series has been described by many reviewers in both the American and foreign audiophile press as "possibly the world's best." It is a 1 inch planer ribbon design and is hand-crafted from an extremely thin laminated membrane of aluminum and Kapton. It measures a mere 0.0005 inch thick. The advantage of incorporating such an extremely thin membrane is one of low mass. The result of this design is a driver that has a rapid and uniform response to high frequency transients and has the speed of the best ribbon/electrostatic designs without the high distortion and poor dispersion that is typically associated with them.

Our new midrange driver is truly unique and revolutionary. Machined from pure titanium, one of the lightest and stiffest materials known to man, this new 5-1/2 inch super-low-mass driver is one of the best transducers ever built. With transient response nearly instantaneous, the 6.1 sound lifelike and effortless. This new transducer, designed by Arnie Nudell, will find its way into other forthcoming models costing many times more than the products conceived for our new 6.1 Series.

To create a "sound bridge" between the midrange and the servo woofer, each 6.1 incorporates two of our world-renowned 6.5" metal-cone mid-bass couplers (as found in our $15,000 Genesis V). This metal cone is an extremely light and stiff design capable of handling the huge dynamic range demands of the system while maintaining extremely low coloration and excellent transient response. This is critical in reproducing that classic "Genesis Power Band!"

BUT NOW... GET READY FOR THE "LOW DOWN"

Servo control of the woofers and metal-cone technology is the key to the phenomenal bass performance of the 6.1 Series. In a traditional woofer system "heavy", "soggy", or "boomy" bass is present to some degree because the woofer has high mass and therefore high inertia. This causes poor control and high distortion. In a servo bass system, complete control of the woofer is made possible by the addition of a motion sensor (accelerometer) mounted directly on the woofer itself. Lower distortion, greater frequency extension and tight control yield musically accurate yet "floor shaking" bass.

The metal cone/servo controlled woofer system in each of the 6.1 Series is driven with a built-in amplifier of unique design. The new Genesis G-SAT Amplifier (as found in the 6.1 Series) utilizes a science first introduced to the audio world by Genesis co-founder Arnie Nudell. This extraordinary technology is known as a Switching Amplifier. Acclaimed for extraordinary performance by virtue of its perfect linear response, near perfect efficiency and "slam factor," our switching amplifier technology is clearly superior to almost any other form of amplification. In fact, the Genesis servo-bass system forms the best "handshake" between driver and amplifier imaginable. The results are seamless, powerful bass...exactly what's needed for today's demanding dual-purpose (audio/video) speaker systems.
